Senior citizen test their skills

Lynn Marcus, Alice Paddock and Lien Badenhorst, residents of the Pauline Davis retirement home, in the CBD, are taking part in the “Pretty Things for Little Things” competition.

This is a national project where senior citizens can submit their handiwork and stand a chance to win prizes and help needy children through the inter-generational project.

They could choose to make soft toys, clothing, blankets or any other items that can be given to children in need, and all three the women chose to knit clothing.

They were introduced to the project by Fereeda Fajandar, Fairleads Senior Citizen Outreach Programme Coordinator, who encouraged them to enter the competition.

All three women enjoy being creative and said they had been practising their knitting and embroidery skills for a long time.

“I am proud of them and we would like to encourage more senior citizens to get involved in this project,” said Fajander.

Three category winners will be selected from each province and will be informed telephonically on Friday, September 27. National winners will be announced on October 10.

Only entrants of 60 years and older are eligible for the prizes, which are shopping vouchers from the sponsors of the project.
