Pupil cuts off hair for cancer

Farrarmere Primary Grade Three pupil Jessica Piper (9) is going to make a few cancer patients very happy.

On September 9 she made her way to a hair salon in Lakefield to cut off approximately 30 centimetres of her hair, so it can be made into a wig for chemo patients who have lost their own.

“I am happy I cut my hair for a good cause, I hope my story inspires my friends and other children to cut their hair for a good cause,” said Jessica.

Earlier this year her mother, Angela, told her about a pupil from St Dunstan’s College who had cut off her hair for cancer, since then the idea stuck in her head.

“My mother wouldn’t let me cut off my hair, for months she tried to convince me not to, but finally she let me do it,” said Jessica.

“I am beaming, I am so proud of her.

“For Jessica to be so socially conscious at her age confirms that her father and I did a good job at raising her,” said Angela.

Jessica’s sister, Anna (7), cut off her hair for cancer on September 11 after being inspired by her older sister.
