Bosom buddies share their experience
Jenny Seaton-Smith and her best friend, Kate Rheeders, were recently crowned champions of the Caxton Reynolds Race 2013.
The bubbly pair, who have been friends for over 15 years, still can’t believe that they will be spending six night and seven days on Mauritius.
“For the first time ever I actually won on effort; I usually win because of luck,” said Kate, a consultant and life-skills teacher.
“I am so proud of us; we were the oldest team there and we proved that age is nothing but a number,” added Jenny, owner of Eve Estates.
While Jenny said she can’t wait to scuba dive and read a book on the beach, Kate said that she was more excited about getting away from the hustle and bustle of Benoni.
“I think the secret to our success was research and dedication,” said Jenny.
“Every spare minute we got we were doing research on the heritage of Ekurhuleni and towards the end we decided to get clued up on the sponsors, and that gave us an advantage.”
She added that the hardest leg throughout the competition for her was running around in a dark cemetery in Springs.
Kate added that the night before the final was her hardest, because self-doubt started setting in.
The two friends agreed that they are now clued up about their local heritage because of the competition.
“We are practically joined at the hip now; we have spent so much time together during this competition,” added Jenny.
“Our Friday nights are now open, so the public can send us party invitations,” giggled Kate.
“We have both agreed that this trip should be for girls only, we just haven’t decided which two friends to take with us,” said Jenny.
“We would like to thank all the teams for giving us a run for our money and to say that no one is a loser
“We would like to thank Caxton, all the sponsors, our family and friends and our sons, Tyrone Seaton-Smith and Ockert Rheeders, for the support they have given us throughout the entire race,” concluded the two friends.
