Prospective farmers graduate

After six weeks of training, 67 people graduated with an accredited qualification in chicken farming, at a ceremony held at EnviroServ, in Apex, on September 25.

For the past three years, Hygro Training College, in partnership with EnviroServ, has successfully trained 183 people in boiler production courses.

The course prepare students for the ins and outs of chicken farming, including theoretical and practical aspects, business, marketing and HR skills.

The hope is for the graduates (who reside in Daveyton, Etwatwa and Delmas) to become successful business people by utilising the skills they have acquired.

The programme is part of EnviroServ’s corporate social investment, where they hope to make a difference in local communities.

They sponsor the training and provide students with a stipend and travel allowance during the course.

”It’s nice to have a positive impact on communities and to create jobs and opportunities,” said EnviroServ CEO Des Gordon.

Gordon added that the initiative aims to provide the community with the necessary skills to reduce poverty and to create sustainable economic development.
