Du Plessis said the sewage is still present in the park opposite Cathcart Street, despite the council saying it has been cleaned up.
‘‘The cleaning of the site was scheduled for soon after the excess effluent had hardened and was dry enough to collect, and for the subsequent application of rehabilitating chemicals,’’ said Ekurhuleni spokesperson Sam Modiba in a statement.
‘‘The full cleaning of the site commenced on September 19.’’
The pump station has since been repaired, after the leak started in early September.
The City Times has not received answers to follow-up questions sent to Ekurhuleni on September 25, asking when the sewage will be removed.
