Entertaining children with a secret garden
Lakeside Mall hosted the National Children's Theatre as they performed the timeless classic, The Secret Garden, based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
The performance was staged on Thursday, September 26, for local children’s enjoyment.
The tale tells the story of Mary Lennox, a 10-year-old girl from India, who is forced to go to live with her uncle, “Mr Craven”, in Britain.
Her new home is a huge and lonely house with multiple gardens, one of which belonged to Craven’s late wife, and is a hidden mystery.
Mary develops an interest in the garden and finds friendships and self-acceptance throughout her journey to unveil its enchanting secrets.
The production was directed by Francois Theron, who said he was surprised at how quiet the children were throughout the production.

“I loved it,” was a girl’s response, when she was asked how she experienced the production.
The young cast includes Marike Smith, Devon Flemmer, Kenneth Meyer, Christel Mutombo, Vici Maud Fourie, Muzi Mthembu and Dikeledi Motale.
