This follows a house robbery in which a maid saw robbers jumping into the property, but did nothing.
“She heard the car stopping outside and saw men jumping the fence, but did nothing,” said police spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele.
The police say property owners should at least educate their maids to either phone the police or, security companies, or to press panic buttons in cases where these exist.
In separate incidents, Benoni police arrested a total of 107 people over the weekend.
Sekele said that 64 were nabbed for train offences’ while others were arrested for crimes ranging from housebreaking, possession of drugs and theft, to common robbery and drunk driving.
They will appear soon, in the Benoni Magistrates Court.
