Zeus offers food for the gods

You do not have to be Greek to enjoy a lovely meal at Zeus Greek Café.

I recently visited the family-owned restaurant at 100 Main Road, Lakefield, and felt right at home from the get go.

I walked into the restaurant and was greeted with a warm smile and friendly conversation by the co-owner, Michelle.

The café’s walls are also littered with pictures of Greece, which puts you right at ease.

The menu has a lot of variety, including traditional Greek food such as Dolmades, Keftedes, Yiro Plate and Kleftiko, amongst others.

But if you do not enjoy Greek food, then there is more than enough to choose from which will satisfy your hunger.

My partner ordered a 300g rump steak with mushroom sauce and a baked potato.

She said the meat was tender, prepared as she requested and a fair portion size.

I ordered an Al Greko Chicken Pasta, which includes chicken cubes, kalamata olives, rosa tomatoes and feta infused with fresh garlic, organum, lemon rind and olive oil.

I enjoyed the spaghetti, which was perfectly cooked, and the feta cheese rounded off the large meal well.

If you are ever cash-strapped, Zeus has a special on all local beers, any day of the week, for R12.

You can also purchase a double Richelieu with Coke for only R20.

The café will soon have a summer cocktail menu.

There is also belly dancing every Friday night and people are able to participate in the tradition of breaking plates at the café. KvdL
