Benoni pioneers unite for spring
The Benoni Pioneers Association enjoyed a spring lunch on Thursday, October 10.
It is one of three meetings the society has yearly, to engage socially.
The association is lead by former mayor of Benoni president Sam Grolman, and lady president Shirley du Plessis.
The Pioneers Association, one of Benoni’s longest standing groups, was started in 1934.
Some of its members went to school together and some of the members’ grandparents were members of the association.

Past president and former mayor of Benoni Ken Brown addressed members, encouraging them to continue making Benoni a special place and passing down its heritage to the generations after theirs.
“Benoni is the pearl of the East Rand,” he said.
“We can make Benoni the colourful town of Joburg and we are going to do so.”

The condition to joining the association is to be a resident of Benoni for a minimum of 30 years.

Contact Grolman on 082 920 6553 if you are interested in joining the Benoni Pioneers.
