Thabethe is expected to assume his duties on October 1.
He is taking over from outgoing chairperson Ezekiel Siwela.
Thabethe is looking forward to making some changes as far as crime in Etwatwa is concerned.
His immediate tasks include mobilising the community to work together with the police in fighting crime, encouraging the youth to participate in the Etwatwa Youth Desk, establishing a bicycle squad to focus on areas where police vehicles can’t reach and reinstating community trust in the police.
All these initiatives are due to be implemented within the last quarter of 2013.
Other projects include conducting awareness campaigns on assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm crime, which emanate from abuse of alcohol, and housebreaking and theft.
