Mr and Miss Benoni 2013 crowned
Sunday, October 27, saw 40 examples of Benoni's finest eye candy strut their stuff on the runway, in an attempt to claim the coveted title of Mr and Miss Benoni 2013.

At this year’s finals of the pageant, presented by Rampage Modelling Agency and held at the Kopanong Hotel and Conference Centre, the theme was “007”, and a suitably themed opening act, performed by the contestants, had pulses racing.
The titles of Mr and Miss Benoni were claimed by Gavin Thompsett and Giselle dos Santos.
This year’s beneficiaries are Apricot Tree and the Haven Care Centre.
The judging panel was made of Brad de Waal, Mr Benoni 2012, Shannel Gray, Miss Benoni 2012, Tandi Meridith, Miss South Africa finalist 1994 and owner of Rampage Modelling Agency Meyersdal, Michael Furgeson online editor and journalist for Get it magazine, Andrew Boberg, national sales manager for Twin Care Hair and Beauty International and Rifiloe Radebe, owner and stylist of Botle Baka Beauty Salon.
They agreed that they wanted someone confident and outgoing to win.
“We are looking for the entire package; confidence, stage presence and someone who really wants it,” said Andrew.
“A genuine character,” added Brad.
“Obviously someone who is confident and all that, but I want to see someone who can go further — take this opportunity and enter for Mr South Africa,” said Michael.
“I’m really looking for someone who has confidence and is approachable and can reach out to the community,” said Tandi.
“It must be someone who carries their duties through, not just halfway through the year, and they must use this title to their advantage,” said Shannel.
Lerato Sookane was crowned first princess and Keziah van Vreden was selected as second princess.
Alan Knight claimed the title of first prince and Kyle Mitchell was awarded the title of second prince.
Taking the titles of the Benoni City Times People’s Choice Awards were Jennifer de Beer and Caylen Naidoo.
Bianca Paulsen and Gavin Thompsett took a couples title, as debutante winners, for raising R62 040 for the beneficiary charities.
Ayanda Becker was also named as a debutante, for collecting around R47 950.
Being a charismatic master of ceremonies, Ron McHarg kept the audience intrigued and laughing throughout the show.
“I am very excited and relieved it’s over — It was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to what I have to do as Miss Benoni,” said Giselle.
“I feel overwhelmed, surprised, grateful and humble, and I am looking forward to the new year,” said Gavin.
