Our horse wins R25 000 at Charity Mile
The Benoni City Times's partner horse, Moon of Rangoon, won R25 000 for our partner charity, Welamlambo Primary After-Care, at the Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile 2013.
Moon of Rangoon finished in 10th position in the 1 600m race, at the Turffontein Race Course, on Saturday, November 2, beating six other participants.
The charity mile attracted thousands of people and was won by Royal Zulu Warrior, after it capped an amazing comeback in the last few metres.
The charity mile is unique in that each horse has a media partner, races on behalf of charity and is publicly represented by a celebrity.
The City Times’ celebrity representative was the pretty actress Amanda du Pont.
Zulu Warrior was partnered with the Kempton Express and celebrity Gerry Elsdon, and it won R100 000 for its charity, Maphanzela Primary After-Care.
The charity mile was attended by the who’s who of South African celebrities, including football star Matthew Booth and wife Sonia, Hall of Fame boxer Brian Mitchell, Miss South Africa 2014 Chané de Kock and entertainer extraordinaire Amor Vittone, among many others.
