Massive food collection on its way
Members of the Benoni van Rhyn Lions Club plan on collecting at least two tons of food for the less fortunate.

People are urged to donate non-perishable food items at a collection point at Oakfields Pick n Pay, in Northmead, on December 7, from 9am to 3pm.
The Lions will, for the first time, go door-to-door on the same day in Rynfield, Northmead and Farrarmere, collecting food.
Lions members will be clothed in Lions attire and their vehicles will sport the Lions logo.
The food will be donated to needy families in Benoni, including Daveyton and Etwatwa.
“With the tight economy and the exchange rate, a lot of people are really battling to keep their heads above water and we are hoping to make the festive season a bit easier for some,” said Lions member Beaulieu Maré.
“We know that Benonians are very generous and even one or two tins of food will make a difference.”
