Benoni High’s rugby captain gets eight distinctions

"Sometimes help comes from the strangest places."

These are the words of Ryan Walton, a Benoni High learner who achieved eight distinctions.

Ryan advises the 2014 matric class to never be afraid to ask if they want to do well, saying people should ask for help even from those who don’t do well.

“I asked for help from my friends, some of whom did not even get distinctions,” he said.

Ryan was also the school’s first team rugby captain and he achieved distinctions in English home language, Afrikaans first additional language, life orientation, mathematics, mathematics paper three, geography, life sciences and physical science.

Inspired by his smart sister Taryn, Ryan worked hard to be like her.

“When I was younger I always wanted to be like her as she is very smart and is my role model,” he said.

His challenge towards the exams was balancing sports and school work.

Ryan, an animal lover, will be studying Veterinary Science at the University of Pretoria.
