- Thulani Mahlangu was sentenced to a fine of R500, or one month imprisonment, when he appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court, on January 17.
He paid the R500 fine for being in possession of dagga.
On December 5, last year, two EMPD officers, from the equestrian unit, were doing crime prevention duties in the area when they spotted Mahlangu walking along Pretoria Road, Fairleads.
He was stopped and searched and dagga was found in his possession.
He was arrested and detained at the Crystal Park SAPS.
On December 9, 2013, Mahlangu appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court for his first appearance and the trial date was set for January 7.
The dagga was forfeited to the state.
- Khulong Ntsheleng was found guilty of being in possession of drugs, when he appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court, on January 13.
He was sentenced to a fine of R2 000, or six months imprisonment, suspended for three years.
On January 10, members of the Crystal Park SAPS were performing stop-and-search operations in Chief Albert Luthuli Park, when they stopped Ntsheleng (40) and searched him.
They found dagga in his possession, and he was arrested.
The dagga has been forfeited to the state.
- Mxolisi Hlanjwa (35) was found guilty of being in possession of and cultivating dagga in the Benoni Magistrates Court on January 13.
Hlanjwa (35) was fined R2 000 and six months imprisonment, suspended for 3 years.
On January 10 Crystal Park SAPS were working special duties.
Police received information on dagga being sold in Chief Albert Luthuli Park.
When the SAPS arrived at the house, they asked to search the house, and found dagga wrapped in paper in the lounge.
The SAPS went outside and found 15 dagga plants in the backyard.
The dagga has been forfeited to the state.
