Missing pilot found dead in Addo
The search for missing pilot Clifton Pike was called off on Saturday when the wreckage of the aircraft was discovered in the Addo Elephant National Park.
Grahamstown police cluster spokesperson Capt Mali Govender said the wreckage was discovered in a valley at Harvey’s Loop at 3pm on February 1.
She could not say whether the pilot died on impact.
Govender said it is believed Pike attempted a landing near the crash site and crashed when he tried to ascend.
Govender said investigators were on scene till late on Saturday and resumed the following day.
Pike was missing from last week Wednesday (January 29) when he failed to land in Port Elizabeth from taking off from the 43 Air School in Port Alfred.
An inquest docket has been opened and handed over to the Civil Aviation Authority for investigation.
