Exposed electric wires endanger children’s lives

The children in Farrarmere have been exposed to danger, due to exposed wires from electric street lights.

Since October, Linda Street resident Lyn Hall has been trying to get the metro to cover the wires on the street light but to no avail.

She contacted the City Times after being sent from pillar to post by council.

Following our enquiry, the metro went out to fix the cover last week.

Lyn said that there are many children who play outside in the street.

“Will they catch a wake up only once a child is electrocuted?” asked Hall, who added that she finds this matter appalling.

“What has happened to the concern and service of the Benoni municipality?

“What are we paying for? Nothing.”

Ekurhuleni Metro “appreciated” that Hall went through the efforts in reporting the status of the street light.

“The street light pole has been closed,” said metro spokesman Themba Gadebe.

But, Hall said, since the cover has been repaired the light has not been functioning.

The City Times notified the metro but no further communication has been received at the time of going to press.
