Two suspects were arrested and an unlicensed 9mm pistol was confiscated from them.
The arrest took place at around 6am.
“The K9 Unit members cornered the suspects at the intersection of Farrar and Elgin streets and a thorough check of the vehicle revealed that it had a Benoni case number,” said EMPD spokesman Wilfred Kgasago.
The two suspects, who are in their early 30s, were charged with possession of a hijacked vehicle, as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm, at the Boksburg North Police Station.
The pair is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrates Court on Friday, February 14.
