Twin babies’ bodies found dumped

The dumped bodies of twin babies were discovered this morning (February 19) in two adjacent toilets in Actonville.

The bodies of a baby girl and boy were discovered by contractors while emptying, cleaning and sanitising the bucket toilets in Emlotheni informal settlement at around 10am today (Wednesday).

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the twins.

It is not clear whether the babies were stillborn or subsequently died.

The umbilical cords were still attached and police believe they were dumped early this morning.

Actonville police spokesman Capt Mack Mngomezulu said the babies had undergone a full-term pregnancy.

Police have opened a concealment of birth case and they are focusing their inquiries on trying to establish who the mother is.

No one has been arrested yet.

“We appeal to the community to come forward with any information which can assist in the investigation,” said Mngomezulu.
