Millions lost to Wednesday evening fire

Firefighters toiled for several hours to extinguish a fire that gutted offices at a business in Stanley Road, Brentwood Park, on Wednesday (February 19).

The fire took hold of the thatch roof offices of Bobocampers and Fiamma (who sell motor homes and caravan accessories), at around 9pm, last night.

Manager of both companies Dedré Bouwers believes lightning caused the fire.

She was notified of the fire (by two people who were on the premises),shortly after it started.

Bouwers and the companies’ staffers rushed to the site, some as far as Brakpan, and attempted to extinguish the fire.

She said the fire brigade arrived within 10 minutes.

Emergency services worked on extinguishing the fire until 3am this morning.

Bouwers suspects millions of rands worth of stock and damage to the building has been lost to the fire.

“We have lost everything, there is nothing left, absolutely nothing,” said Bouwers on Thursday afternoon.

ER24 JHB East spokesperson Glen Orritt said there were no injuries on scene.

Orritt thanked the Farrarmere and Rynfield fire departments and the Benoni CPF for their assistance on scene.
