Feeding the community through Christ

Victus Christi, Latin for "feeding through Christ", is a non-profit, self-funded organisation that helps “middle income” people who are struggling to make ends meet.

“We identified a big gap, where middle income-type people need our assistance; in most cases the bread winner loses their job and the family has nothing to fall back on,” said Marius Yssel, one of the three founders.

“We did not want to be another organisation that asks for donations, so we sell vegetables, have a monthly farmers’ market at 24b Miles Sharp Street, and organise events. With the money we get from that we help the community.”

The organisation receives fresh vegetables from Woolworths Farrarmere Square.

The vegetables are sorted into three forms (fresh, frozen and cooked), packaged and then sold to the public.

All the proceeds the organisation makes from its services go back into the community.

On a weekly basis, Victus Christi feeds approximately 25 families and fully supports 18 other families with food parcels.

The organisation was founded by Yssel, Hettie Viljoen and Giel de Bruyn in 2012.
