R500 000 donated to Oliver’s House
A sum of R500 000 was donated to Oliver’s House, to support about 200 unemployed people and matric pupils who are beneficiaries of the non-governmental organisation.
The donation was made by ABSA, on February 17.
Oliver’s House is actively involved in education, training, skills development, job creation and early childhood development.
The organisation’s main beneficiaries are from Daveyton, Etwatwa and Wattville.
Matric learners are given free mathematics and science lessons to improve their academic performance, while 40 unemployed community members will undergo intensive training in gardening.
The latter will also be provided with seeds and farming equipment, to help them kick-start their gardens.
“As a responsible, corporate citizen, the bank seeks to ensure that our citizenship initiatives deliver a sustainable uplift to the quality of lives of the communities that we touch,” said Kudzi Samushonga, regional executive of Absa branch banking in Gauteng.

Oliver’s House has had a close working relationship with bank since its inception in 2001.
It was through this relationship that it managed to improve the lives of thousands of beneficiaries.

Samushonga added that the bank will utilise the skills of its financial education division to provide financial skills to Oliver’s House employees, in order to enhance their management of various financial aspects of their organisation.
