“The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has embarked on a project to replace pre-payment meters with a new meter installation,” said metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.
“The installation of the new meter also requires the replacement of the house service cables, to accommodate proper communication between the meter and the meter keypad.
“The work is carried out by a legitimate, appointed contractor.”
The municipality said they would inform residents of commencement and anticipated completion dates of the meter installations.
Stoppages are not expected to last longer than eight hours at a time.
There are also plans to replace faulty meters in Chief Albert Luthuli Park.
