Refurbishment of central pool going well

In about four months time the refurbishment of the Benoni Central Pool will be completed.

According to Samuel Ngobese, councillor for Ward 73, the refurbishment kicked off in September, last year, and will be completed on July 15.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality is spending R6-million on fixing the entire facility.

“With the recent rain we have had a few delays, but we hope that nothing will go wrong in terms of finishing on time; it brings a smile to my face when I see that we are about to fulfil one of the public’s wishes,” said Ngobese.

What has been fixed so far:

The flower box outside the central pool was removed, and the space there will be used for parking.

The entire building has been repainted.

Approximately 90 per cent of all the electrical work has been completed.

The pump room has been extended.

The children’s swimming pool has been changed and plastered.

The floors in the changing rooms have been changed.

The excavation for the new pipeline has been completed.

What still needs to be fixed:

The main pool and children’s pool need to be tiled.

The new water pipe line needs to be installed.

The old roof needs to be taken out and replaced with a new one.

Ngobese asked the public to look after the pool once it has been opened.

“I hope that those who vandalised the pool will see the changes that were made and respect them,” concluded Ngobese.
