Woman dies in collision
A woman died in a collision on Laris Street, Etwatwa, yesterday morning (March 25).
ER24 received a call-out to a serious motor vehicle collision and, along with provincial EMS and fire services, arrived on the scene to find that a minibus taxi and Toyota Avanza had collided, causing extensive damage to the one vehicle.
“Paramedics went to the back of the Avanza and found three people lying on the ground,” said ER24 Johannesburg East spokesperson Glen Orritt.
“Paramedics assessed the injured and found that one woman, in her 20s, had suffered severe and extensive injuries and was in a critical condition.”
She was placed on a manual ventilator and, while paramedics worked to stabilise her, her condition deteriorated.
CPR was performed on the woman and after an hour of continuous attempts to save her life, she succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead.
The remaining two commuters from the Avanza were treated for moderate injuries and stabilised on scene, before being transported to nearby hospitals by ambulance.
The driver and only occupant of the second minibus was not injured.
Local authorities will investigate the accident.
