Dogs dumped on road to die

Two pug puppies were given a new lease on life, after being found dumped in an apple box on Miles Sharp Street.

The dogs were discovered in the box, alongside two dead pugs, on March 12.

Farrarmere resident Liezel Snyman said she was driving along Miles Sharp Street when she saw movement coming from the box.

She stopped and took the dogs to her workplace.

Pug Rescue SA director and chairman Malcolm Gaw was shocked by the news of the pups being dumped.

”Who in their right mind puts four puppies in a box and dumps them on the side of the road?” he asked.

He said the puppies are believed to be approximately four weeks old.

Gaw blames the incident on people’s lack of education and awareness.

He said those responsible had the option to take the animals to Pug Rescue SA or any other animal welfare organisation, including the SPCA.

The director said his centre has rescued and re-homed 840 dogs in five years, 20 per cent of which were not pugs.

Gaw urged the people responsible for dumping the dogs to come forward and have the parents of the pug puppies sterilised, as he feared another unwanted litter could be dumped.

No questions will be asked and no fee will be charged.

Gaw may be contacted on 082 458 7255, or emailed on info@pugrescue.co.za.
