Fire stopped in its tracks

No fatalities or injuries were recorded after the basement of a shop, at the corner of Liverpool Road and Bhattay Street, Actonville, caught fire on March 4.

“The cause of the fire is still undetermined, but, with our preliminary investigation and the information we have, we think faulty electricity or an electrical short circuit might have led to the fire,” said William Ntladi, Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services communication officer.

He added that all the stuff that was stored inside the basement caught fire, but, due to the swift intervention of the fire fighters, fire suppression was initiated and the blaze was extinguished before it could spread to the top structures and other surrounding buildings.
