Connie puts her crocheting skills to good use
Connie Jacobs is an 87-year-old woman who needs only wool and a crochet hook to help the less fortunate to beat the winter chills.
The bubbly Brentwood Park resident has made 40 blankets, 30 of which will be distributed to the Armoede Bediening, an organisation that cares for unemployed and less fortunate persons, while the rest will go to other individuals in need.
She has crocheted blankets for the organisation for over five years, and still has a passion for using her talent to give warmth to those less fortunate.
Connie, who has been crocheting for “many years”, said it takes about 10 days to complete a blanket.
The blankets are designed in a variety of colours and patterns.
A neighbour joked that crocheting is all that Connie does, and that she takes breaks only to eat and sleep.
As long as there is wool, Connie will go on.
She will start crocheting blankets for next winter, once these have been donated.
Anyone who would like to get involved, or who would like to donate wool, can contact 011 973 4729.
