This week the BCT takes you back 53 years to the Friday, April 14, 1961 edition.

Rynfield – the Texas of Benoni. In 1971, Rynfield was host to crowds of migratory cattle and nobody knew who their owners were. The animals were not very popular in the area as they made a feast out of numerous Rynfield residents’ lawns. On this week in April 1961, town council and Clr Albert Bekker promised more concentrated round-up operations of the crowds of cattle.

Old Bens Football Club were involved in a tussle of a football match against Johannesburg Warriors and unfortunately for the Benoni team they came unstuck in a hotly contested affair at Willowmoore Park in April 1971. The game was described as one of the best second division NFL games seen at the ground in a long time.
