The three men allegedly gain access to properties by lying to domestic workers, claiming that they have been sent by the owners to do some work in the house.
They were nabbed outside a house in Van Rooyen Street, in Rynfield, where they were trying to persuade the owner to open for them, pretending to be plumbers.
The two Benoni police constables, Elias Tjhofa and Samuel Mahlaba, were on patrol duty when they noticed a suspicious-looking Hyndai H1, with three occupants wearing blue work suits, and monitored it for a brief period.
“The police have been on a lookout for the same car, due to its reported involvement in house robberies in the area,” said police spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele.
Sekele said the men might be linked to more cases of house robbery.
Police urge residents whose houses have been robbed by men who gained access by pretending to be workers to come forward to identify the suspects at an identity parade.
