Naidoo killers sentenced to life in prison

An exceptional investigation, by Benoni detective WO Peter Mbonani, saw the killers of Enrico Naidoo sentenced to life in jail.

Myron Booysen (23) and Shaun Samuel (22) were each sentenced to life in prison for stabbing Naidoo to death, in January.

Naidoo was walking along Woburn Avenue with two friends when the two men approached them.

“They pulled a gold chain from Naidoo’s neck and also demanded the cellphones of the three men,” said Benoni police spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele.

Naidoo decided to fight them and the two stabbed him and ran away.

Sekele said that, following a tip-off, the men were traced to the Free State, where they were arrested.

Benoni station commander Brig Poobalan Subbiah commended Mbonani for the exceptional investigation, which led to a speedy conviction.

The men were each sentenced to life in prison for murder and 15 years for robbery.

The sentences will run concurrently.
