DA, EFF election posters vandalised and removed

Election posters belonging to the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the newly formed Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are being vandalised and illegally removed from the lamp posts in Daveyton.

Daveyton police spokesperson Capt Alfred Nakana said a 41-year-old woman and her 21-year-old son were recently arrested after they were caught removing EFF posters from a street lamp post.

The two were arrested after the EFF opened a case with the police.

“The woman told the police that the reason she was removing the EFF posters was that she didn’t want to be governed by children,” said Nakana.

They appeared in court and the case has been postponed to May 20.

Meanwhile police are searching for the occupants of a car spotted removing DA election posers.

Members of the DA in Daveyton opened a case with the police after they spotted people removing their election posters from the lamp posts and replacing them with Cosatu May Day rally posters.

Nakana said the police are in possession of the car’s registration number and expect to make arrests soon.

Nakana warned the community that illegally removing election posters is a violation of the electoral code and those found doing it will be arrested.
