Benoni police cluster commander Brig Vuyokazi Ndebele said she would like to thank the entire Benoni community for their contribution to the fight against crime.
“I would like to thank the CPF, churches, community members, reservists, patrollers, the taxi association, Gauteng traffic police, the EMPD, security companies — especially the CMS — and the SAPS members, including the provincial police,” said Ndebele.
Although Ndebele acknowledged that there are still some challenges, she said the crime statistics for the financial year ending March 2014 are looking good.
From April, last year, to the end of March, this year, the cluster made 4 537 drugs arrests, shut down 498 illegal liquor outlets, made 5 795 B-crime arrests, and nabbed 154 people for possession of illegal firearms.
The cluster commander said the successes would not be possible without all those who contributed.
“Let’s continue to put our hands together in order to reduce the level of crime in Benoni,” she said.
“Divided we fall, but together we will win.”
Ndebele said she also managed to establish a security forum, to share information, and that a good working relationship with the forum has produced great results.
She was also pleased that the elections went well in Benoni and thanked the voters and those who ensured peace on the day.
Ndebele again urged the community to report corruption to her on 082 551 7840.
