I think it is so sad that, in this day and age, when young people want to get involved in a positive, selfless initiative, and give something back to the community, they have little or no help or response.
My 17-year-old daughter and her two school friends would desperately like to do volunteer work with the blind and the aged.
They have actively been trying for nearly two months to achieve this.
Each call to an organisation is met with responses such as there are no such opportunities and/or “no posts” available, or that she must send in a CV and copy of her ID book – and still no response.
It is truly a disappointing example we are setting.
