Dog abandoned at vet
A cross-breed male dog is still at the North Rand Road Animal Hospital, where it received treatment for a broken leg approximately a month ago.
The Benoni SPCA was approached by the animal’s owners, from Northmead, in April, after it was injured in an accident, involving a gate, on their property.
Senior inspector at the Benoni SPCA Annalise Jungmann said the owners were desperate to help their pet at the time and promised to pay off the tariff they were liable for.
She said the owners have, however, still not paid their vet’s bill and are not available to communicate.
She has made a number of attempts to contact them telephonically, and personally delivered official notices to their home, to no avail.
Veterinarian Chrystel Conradi said it often occurs that people abandon their pets at the vet, for whom it is an inconvenience, as they have to find new homes for the animals and suffer a loss.
Jungmann added that incidents such as this cause a lack of trust in people, who might actually be sincere.
The vet, together with the Benoni SPCA, are trying to find a new home for the dog.
The SPCA will be laying abandonment charges.
