Primary School pupils show their care for animals

The faces of Laerskool Putfontein Primary's junior pupils lit up when a senior inspector at the Benoni SPCA, Annalise Jungmann, told them, at their assembly on Youth Day, that their donations help the organisation to take care of its animals.

The school raised R2 000 in funds for the organisation.

After a recent talk on the SPCA, pupils could wear animal masks for the day, on May 30, for a donation of R5.

In addition to the financial contribution, the pupils also donated blankets and pet food, which were all handed over to the organisation at the school’s assembly on Youth Day.

School principal Gert Kachelhoffer said they launched this project in the hope of the children developing a better knowledge of and care for animals.

“There is a lack of caring for animals in schools,” said Kachelhoffer.

“We read and learn about the Benoni SPCA in the Benoni City Times, and what they mean to animals in need, and we would like to assist them more in the future.”

Jungmann sincerely thanked the pupils for their donations.
