Man convicted of possession of stolen property

Station commander commends all involved

Mozambique national Antonio Jahane Uquelo (28) was sentenced to seven years imprisonment, when he appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court, on June 23.

He was convicted for his role in the theft of a motorcycle, in the Benoni Agricultural Holdings, on April 14.

Crystal Park SAPS media liaison officer Tryna Maritz said Uquelo was one of three men involved in the theft of a Kawasaki.

The three made off with the motorcycle and hid it in a veld.

The Crystal Park SAPS and CPF conducted a stakeout and saw the perpetrators move the bike from the veld.

Uquelo was detained and charged with possession of stolen property, while his two accomplices evaded arrest.

He was also declared unfit to be in possession of a firearm.

Uquelo will serve his sentence in Modderbee Prison.

The Crystal SAPS station commander, Lieut Col Belinda Motaung, commended all involved in securing the conviction.
