Arrest for petrol theft

Fake notes given to attendant

Two men were arrested minutes after paying a petrol attendant with counterfeit money.

The two 29-year-olds stopped for petrol at the Sasol garage on Putfontein Road, Cloverdene, and drove off after paying the attendant with photocopies of notes which totaled R200.

A Community Police Forum (CPF) member at the garage saw the attendant running after the vehicle, and decided to follow the men.

En route, he alerted the SAPS and other CPF members on the radio.

The SAPS joined the pursuit and arrested the men on Pioneer Drive, in Benoni.

They were charged with theft and fraud and will appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court on on Friday, June 27.
