Two pedestrians found dead on N12 highway

Victims pronounced dead on scene

Two women were declared dead on the N12 highway, after being struck by a truck, on Friday evening.

The victims are believed to have been crossing the highway between the Atlas Road and Tom Jones Street off-ramps, towards Springs, when an 18-wheeler ran them over.

“On arrival, paramedics found the two women lying unresponsive, about 100m apart, in the left lane of the highway,” said ER24 JHB East spokesperson Glen Orritt.

”The paramedics immediately attended to both women, who were believed to be in their late 20s, and found that both had suffered severe and extensive injuries.”

Orritt said paramedics were told by witnesses that the truck had left the scene after the collision.

Local authorities were on scene to further investigate the incident.
