‘Know your neighbours in fighting crime’

The Crystal Park SAPS held a community meeting, at Crystal Park Primary, on Saturday, July 19.

Sgt Charles Kodisang, who is in charge of sector one, called for the community to unite against crime, which is a serious problem for Crystal Park residents.

“Housebreakings are a serious problem in sector one and the constantly targeted areas include Extensions 32 and 35,” said Kodisang.

A number of housebreakings take place during the night.

Kodisang said that community members are often negligent by not taking precaution.

“Some residents leave their gates open and keys are left on door handles,” he added.

He encouraged community members to be more vigilant and get to know their neighbours by taking down their numbers.

Another problem for the sector is the escape routes. Crystal Park currently has 12-15 escape routes that pose a serious concern for the SAPS and make it easier for criminals to escape.

Community members were warned to also take precautions when renting out their homes to people they do not know.

Kodisang urged residents to work together in each area and to patrol for at least two hours, in an attempt to decrease the crime levels in the area.

Kodisang can be contacted on 071 675 7409/011 969 4880.
