Lions commit to continue service

The newly-inducted Lions Club presidents plan to continue and build on the hard work of the previous year of office.

An all-women panel of presidents was elected at the Lions Zone Six presidential induction dinner, held at the Benoni Lake Golf Club, on Saturday, July 19.

Lion Roger Skudder inducted the new presidents and presented each club with their charter.

Benoni Host Lions Club outgoing president Jill Walden was replaced by Isobel Reyneke.

Reyneke expressed her gratitude to her club for electing her as president.

“It is once again a great honour and a privilege for me to take on the office as president of the Benoni Host Lions Club,” she said.

“I commit to give of my best in serving Benoni Host and, together with all the members, making this year a memorable one.”

She said she and her club would look at new ways to approach service projects and fundraising, especially due to the tough financial climate.

Valerie Ridout is at the helm of the Benoni Lionesses, taking over from Pat Bezuidenhout.

Ridout, who was honoured to be elected as president, warned people to keep an eye on the club for the difference it will make.

She said membership looks promising for the 2014/2015 year.

Boksburg Lions Club president Hennelie van der Merwe and Benoni van Rhyn Lions Club president Jill Stockwell will serve another term at their respective clubs.

Van der Merwe said her club is looking healthy and existing projects, such as the Meals on Wheels and blood drives, will continue.

Stockwell was happy to be re-elected and said her club, which has produced the zone six zone chairperson for seven consecutive years, will serve the community as best it can.
