Nigerian man still missing, Brixton cops’ trial date set

The trial date for two Brixton police officers accused of assaulting, suffocating and disposing of a Nigerian national has been set.

The officers appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court on July 21, charged with murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, abduction and defeating the ends of justice.

Benoni senior prosecutor December Mthimunye said the case will be heard on September 12 and 22, and October 14 and 15, in Benoni Regional Court One.

The officers, aged 31 and 32, were granted bail of R1 000 each.

Nigerian Theddeus Duru (52) has not been seen since Friday, January 17, after two Flying Squad members from the Brixton police allegedly went to his house, beat him up, suffocated him, loaded him into their car and left.

The incident occurred at around 10am, on a property situated at the intersection of Turvey Street and Elston Avenue.
