Private companies asked to assist

Dr Imogen Mashazi, Ekurhuleni chief operations officer, has called for more private companies to join government in responding to socio-economic challenges experienced in the region.

“We have many companies that we contracted to do work for government and we appeal to these companies to join hands with us and respond to social challenges, because government alone cannot resolve all social challenges,” said Mashazi.

She was speaking at a ceremony held in Etwatwa, to hand over a house to Elizabeth Mabena, on Sunday, July 20.

The ceremony was part of the 67 minutes for Mandela Day initiative and the house was constructed by Rendeals Four Consulting, who had partnered with the City of Ekurhuleni and the Department of Human Settlements.

The house will bring relief to the Mabena family, who have been living with neighbours for the past 18 months.

Mabena had previously qualified for a subsidy house, but it could not be built on the allocated land, which was water-logged and required specialised structural designs.

The City of Ekurhuleni hopes the private and public partnership between provincial government and Rendeals Four Consulting will turn a new leaf in the lives of the Mabena family, in honour of former President Nelson Mandela.
