Warning to women following attempted rape on Pretoria Road

The Benoni police warn women to be cautious and aware of their surroundings, following an attempted rape on Pretoria Road, this morning (July 31).

Police spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said a female victim was nearly raped at her house this morning.

“She was reversing the car out of the garage when she suddenly saw someone armed with a knife standing next to the vehicle,” said Sekele.

The man pulled the victim out of her car, forced her back into the garage and shut the door.

He then tied her up and tried to rape her, but the woman fought back and screamed.

Eventually, the suspect ran away; police believe he panicked due to the woman screaming.

Sekele said the woman was admitted to hospital with minor bruises.

No one has been arrested and police have opened an assault and attempted rape docket.

Sekele warned woman to be alert at all times on their properties, especially in Rynfield, Northmead and Farrarmere.
