Members of the Benoni CPF sighted a silver VW Golf they believed was involved in a house robbery, in Farrarmere, where three handguns were stolen from a safe.

The CPF members could easily identify the vehicle as it was captured on a CCTV camera during the robbery.

“Following a high-speed chase, which went as far as Glen Marais, CPF members were shot at by the occupants in the VW Golf,” said Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson.

The CPF members decided to call for assistance from the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, and a member of the EMPD Northern Region Crime Prevention Task Team responded.

“During the shoot-out, one suspect was wounded and one broke a foot while trying to take off on foot; the third suspect was arrested without much resistance,” said Kgasago.

The two injured suspects are under police guard at the Tembisa Hospital, and the third suspect is in custody atThe Kempton Park Police Station.

A .38 Special revolver was recovered from the suspects.

“The three will face charges of robbery, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” said Kgasago.
