Benoni CPF and SAPS foil house robbery, catch two suspects

The Benoni police and CPF members foiled a house robbery at the corner of Stokroos and Angelier streets, today (August 14).

One suspect was arrested at the house and an Alfa Romeo 159, which was reported to have been stolen in Kempton Park, was also recovered.

Police spokesman Lieut Nomsa Sekele said that a CPF member became suspicious when he saw the white Alfa Romeo with three occupants reversing into the property.

“The car had already been reported stolen and was also reported to have been involved in a house robbery in Impala Park, recently,” said Sekele.

The CPF member alerted other CPF members and the police and they arrived at the scene soon after.

Two suspects jumped the back wall and ran away when they noticed the police, but a third was caught while attempting to ran away.

Police then caught another suspicious-looking man in the vicinity a few minutes later and Sekele said they were still trying to link him to the robbery.

The EMPD, SAPS and Benoni CPF are still on scene, searching for more suspects.

Initial reports said there was a shooting, but no one was reported to have been shot.
