Mr SA finalist returns to his roots

Anthony Churchyard shares some of his stories in hope to inspire learners to work hard, live a life of honour , and to grow in love and wisdom.

The Grade Seven pupils at Arbor Primary School were privileged to be meet Mr South Africa finalist Anthony Churchyard, on July 31.

The 26-year-old grew up and lives in the Rynfield Agricultural Holdings and attended Arbor Primary School.

He returned to the school to share some of the wisdom he has gained.

Men of Honour is a campaign for Mr SA 2014 and Churchyard based his talk on some of the principles of honour and the values he has learned through ballroom dancing during this year.

“I made a decision to begin ballroom dancing this year to challenge myself and, while it is just a skill to be practised, it has taught me many important values I felt would be beneficial to share,” he said.

Churchyard asked for 10 pupils to volunteer to hold sheets of paper containing the points he wanted to make.

The 10 points were meaningful and of a semi-serious nature, and the learners had a fun time discussing them.

The points concerned trust, integrity, respect, discipline, and strength, to name a few.

“It was a wonderful experience to interact with the Grade Seven pupils and share some of my own stories in the hope of inspiring them to work hard, live a life of honour , and to grow in love and wisdom,”said Churchyard.

“His talk was well received by the learners, especially because he involved them,” said Isolde Bayne, head teacher of the Grade Sevens.

Making the final 25 of Mr SA is Churchyard’s biggest achievement.

“My goal was simply to be myself, but to also challenge myself to get out my comfort zone,”he said.

“I want to help people as much as I can, and its been amazing to have so many opportunities to do so.”

Churchyard is currently working as a freelance photographer and his passions are extreme sports and adventure photography.

The finals of Mr SA will be held in Gauteng, on December 12.
