ANIMAL CRUELTY: Woman (22) arrested after throwing her injured puppy over the fence onto moving traffic

The EMPD arrested a 22-year-old woman in Lurie Road, Putfontein, in connection with animal cruelty, on September 4, at around 7am.

This is after the superintendent of the EMPD’s Equestrian Unit witnessed the woman tossing an injured puppy over the fence, because she was “late for work and didn’t have time to take it to the SPCA”.

The puppy walked onto the road and early morning traffic had to slam on their brakes to avoid driving over it.

“The incident nearly caused a multiple car pile-up, as tyres screeched and motorists swerved in all directions to avoid a collision with other vehicles while trying to avoid killing the puppy,” said EMPD spokesman Wilfred Kgasago.

Kgasago said the woman was arrested and booked at the Putfontein Police Station, for cruelty to an animal.

The 22-year-old will face a charge of cruelty to animals, in the Benoni Magistrates Court, soon.

Kgasago said the puppy was taken to the EMPD Equestrian Unit headquarters where it was afforded medical attention – it had sustained serious injuries to its hind legs.
