HunTer’s song for iThemba

iThemba Trauma Support Centre now has its own song voicing its cause.

Local singer HunTer was inspired by the centre to write “We are the women” and it is already playing on radio stations, locally and internationally.

HunTer, who was recently appointed as ambassador for iThemba, described this song as one of her soul works.

Her aim with the composition, co-produced by Adriaan van der Merwe and co-written with Claudia Cox, is to help empower women and encourage them to start standing together.

She said the lyrics say everything;

The chorus of the song reads: “We are the women, we have a right — to love and laugh, not rape and fright — we are the women, we have the sight — let’s stand together, let’s all unite.”

Collaborating with HunTer on vocals are Daniela Diogo and Nyameka Ngqeleni.

Chairwoman of iThemba Hema Pillay said she is proud of the song, as it represents iThemba.

“‘We are the women’ gives all survivors a voice,” she added.

Pillay and her family sponsored the production costs of the song.

Plans for a music video are also in the pipeline.

“I am very proud that I can help create awareness of women,” said HunTer.

She encouraged women to build their strengths within, placing an emphasis on self worth.

“The journey starts within; if you have respect, you won’t let anyone abuse, rape or mistreat you,” she said.

She thanked Pillay and her husband Calvin for their sponsorship, her husband Jaco van de Vyver and children Kyle and Nicole for their constant support, and her manager Darryl Heilbrunn for his guidance.

Any proceeds made from this track, once it is available to be downloaded, will go towards iThemba.

The song can be heard on Sound Cloud.

HunTer said it is also being play-listed on East Rand Stereo, and has even extended to radio stations in New York, Canada and Germany.
