Low water demand could help fill reservoirs

Rand Water is hoping a low water demand this evening will assist in replenishing an almost empty reservoir.

Justice Mohale, Rand Water media relations manager, told the City Times this afternoon that the Waterval reservoir (which supplies Cloverdene with water) is currently 1.4 per cent full.

He said with the lower water demand at night the reservoir levels should be replenished faster.

The media relations manager said high lying areas have particularly been hit by poor water pressure of a lack of water.

The Vlakfontein reservoir (which supplies Crystal Park and Morehill) is standing at a 33.7 per cent level.

Mohale said reservoirs should ideally be between 60 and 80 per cent full.

Some parts of Benoni have been without water, or have had a sporadic supply, for over a week.

Both Ekurhuleni and Rand water asked the public to lower water consumption this morning.
